Greetings Tushkateers! How are you this fabulous almost-spring Monday mmiloszorning?  It promises to be another gloriously sunny day here in NYC, which makes me double happy!  I strolled through Central Park yesterday with my good friend, Anna and her dog Milosz.  How cute is he?  We took in deep breaths of (fresh? not so much) air!  Ahhhh ...

Other highlights of my week?!  Well, since you asked - Peter and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary!  We had a fun night out on the town, but when we got home we found that the cat had vomited in his favorite bedroom slippers!  Funny?! You betcha' ... HA!

I'm excited to announce that you can now sign up for my Omega workshop, entitled "Our Lady of Weight Loss EnLIGHTens: Health, Happiness and Well Being!"  My workshops are more like transformational playshops.  Please COME!  If you have any questions, write me!

This week's KICK is deliciously filled with a video from my bit  on "Hot Topics" on Better.tv!!! (Now that I figured out how to embed them in this newsletter, watch out!)... a righteous recipe that will rock your lunch world, a letter from a Tushkateer who got hot mad at me!!!! and MORE!

What's happening with you? Write me!

Spread the word ... NOT the icing,

Chilean Quake Shifts Earth's AXIS!!!

Just yesterday while discussing global warming, the end of winter, and the beginning of spring, I was remembering "Midnight Sun," one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes.

Chewing the Fat
Dear Janice ~ I love receiving your weekly Kick – however I am VERY disturbed that you would create a picture with someone smoking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That offends me more than I can say!  And for a very well educated lady – I can hardly believe you would make the mistake of including something like that in one of your newsletters.  Please include some sort of retraction telling us that you do not condone smoking!  Sincerely,  Mary from Alaska

Dear Mary ~  The art from last week's KICK was taken from a tongue-in-cheek piece of weight loss art that had the words "pardon my oral compulsion" written across the top.  Perhaps without the words, it did look like I was condoning smoking, which I am of course NOT!  Thank you for getting all fired up and smokin' mad! :)  ~ Janice

Dear Janice (aka Our Lady of Weight Loss) ~ I'm trying to re-adjust my thinking -- like thinking that exercise is "play time" for myself rather than drudgery to put off.  However, I also am not joining a gym during this time, because I am moving soon, so there's no point; and  I'm not hiring a personal trainer, because I need to save my money for the move.   I'm trying to take positive steps to move forward, but I keep coming up with excuses.  I want to stop having excuses. ~ Denise P.

Dear Denise P. ~  I've got both good news and bad news for you.  The good news is that you 'get' that you are making excuses and you want to stop.  The bad news is that as long as you continue to 'try' you will not succeed.  As Yoda from Star Wars says, "There is no try. Do or do not." (Yes, this is my favorite quote and I've used it before, here on these pages, and in my books.  But you see, we all are still trying!)  So, Denise, do adjust your thinking, and do move forward.  When you hear an excuse float to the surface, drop it and get moving.  Walking is FR*EE!  Dancing in your underwear when no one is home is FR*EE!   Let us know how your weight drops in ratio to the dropping of your excuses! ~ Janice aka OLofWL

Righteous Recipe

A new supermarket opened in the 'hood last week!  This is a BIG deal in these parts!!!  Even though I am in NYC, my neighborhood is not exactly overflowing with healthy food choices!  Anyway, big, juicy strawberries were on sale!   So, I picked up a box and tossed together this amazing recipe.

Here's the deal, Tushkateers, the more fruits and vegetables we eat, the better.  Here's to your health!

Arugula and Strawberry Salad

Ingredients: 1/3 cup chopped walnuts * 4 cups baby arugula, or torn arugula leaves * 2 cups sliced strawberries (or more if you like, nobody ever got fat on strawberries)
1 ounce Blue Cheese, crumbled into small pieces
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons FIG balsamic vinegar (my favorite of all balsamic vinegars)
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions:  Toast walnuts in a small dry skillet over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until lightly browned and aromatic.  Take in a deep breath and enjoy the aroma.  Transfer to a salad bowl.  Let it cool for a few minutes and then add arugula, strawberries, cheese, salt n' pepper.  Sprinkle vinegar and oil over the salad and toss gently.

 Quote of the Week
