Greetings Tushkateers!I'm bacckkkkkk! I missed you all terribly and I hope you missed Our Lady of Weight Loss and me, too! As I mentioned in the last Kick in the Tush Club newsletter, I was in Phoenix at an Integrative Mental Health Conference sponsored by the University of Arizona and Dr. Andrew Weill. It was amazing! I learned quite a bit, and I am incorporating these learnings into my workshop at Omega. So be sure to sign up for it (info below), because it is going to be the best ever!!!
After Phoenix, we (Peter and I) headed down to Tucson and I fell in love. Not with another man ... nope! I fell in love with the cactus. Thus, the above artwork. I love the quote, don't you? I would definitely not only stand on a cactus to reach the stars; I would sit on a cactus! Ouch!!! Send me your favorite cactus quotes!
I'd mentioned in the last KICK that Weight Loss Counseling is a tax deduction. A bunch of y'all wrote me, asking for more info. So ... here follows an excerpt from the IRS website. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway - I am not an accountant. You definitely should check with your accountant to make sure all the 'i's are dotted and 't's crossed, and then write me for a free consult!
Here's what the IRS site said: You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay to lose weight if it is a treatment for a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease). This includes fees you pay for membership in a weight reduction group, weight loss counseling as well as fees for attendance at periodic meetings. You cannot include membership dues in a gym, health club, or spa as medical expenses, but you can include separate fees charged there for weight loss activities.
You cannot include the cost of diet food or beverages in medical expenses because the diet food and beverages substitute for what is normally consumed to satisfy nutritional needs. You can include the cost of special food in medical expenses only if: The food does not satisfy normal nutritional needs; the food alleviates or treats an illness, and the need for the food is substantiated by a physician.
AND ... Here's the link to my Omega workshop, entitled: "Our Lady of Weight Loss EnLIGHTens: Health, Happiness and Well Being!" In addition, to blowing the fat cells out our mind, we are going to build an altar to Our Lady of Weight Loss and sacrifice our Twinkies! My workshops are more like transformational playshops. Please COME! If you have any questions, write me!
Just for a moment, I invite you to imagine what it must feel like to lose 366 pounds, to be able for the very first time buckle a normal seat belt, put on a pair of jeans and even a bathing suit. Step by step, Ruby Gettinger, with the help of the 12-step program, is courageously staring her food addiction down, down, down the scales of injustice.... Read On!

Weight Loss Counseling is a tax deduction! As I understand it, "You can deduct behavioral counseling, specifically for weight loss. Make sure you have appropriate documentation from your provider, as well as payment receipts." Just an FYI - I am a Weight Loss Counselor, and I can provide the documentation. Needless to say, do check with your accountant to make sure all the 'i's are dotted and 't's crossed, and then write me for a free consult!

Q: Why shouldn't you feed your teddy bear? A: He is already stuffed. ~ Author Unknown
Dear Our Lady of Weight Loss ~ I have gained about 40 lbs. over the past two years. Whenever I try to change the way I eat, I seem to gain more weight.
I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight. Do you think my metabolism has slowed down? Any advice for me? Where do I begin and what food plan should I follow? Thanks in advance. ~ With love and gratitude, AC
Dear AC ~ Definitely go to a doctor and have your thyroid and metabolism checked out. Then, assuming that she/he says that you are okay, please do write down everything you eat for an entire week. Calculate the amount of fat, sugar, salt and calories that you ingest. Is your diet a bounty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables? Are you truly eating healthfully? Are you eating mindfully? Are you in touch with your body? Do you know when 'enough is enough?'
As far as diet or food plan goes, I encourage you to investigate the Mediterranean plan. It is the one that Dr. Andrew Weill and his colleagues mentioned a number of times at the Integrative Mental Health Conference that I attended last week. Here is the link from the Mayo Clinic, another reputable place: the Mediterranean Diet
Please keep us in your loop and let us know what you learn and how you proceed. You're not the only one who can't eat the way they used to, that's for sure! ~ OLofWL
Need to talk to a 'trained ear,' someone who can hear what you are saying and help you turn it around and get your upward spiral in motion? Write Janice, Life & Wellness Coach, for more information about her (telephone) coaching sessions and ask about her 4-week program.
It's not about your fat; it's about your life! I am inviting you to step out of your fat suit and into life!
