Answers to your most frequently asked questions...
Q: "My CycleBeads have 12 white beads showing my 'fertile window' but I thought I could only get pregnant a few days a month. How come the 'fertile window' is so long?"
A: CycleBeads identify the "fertile window" – the time during which most women could get pregnant - as days 8 through 19 of the menstrual cycle. While it is true that a woman can get pregnant during only a few days of her cycle (approximately 6 days in a given cycle), these days may not be at the same time from one cycle to the next. The “fertile window” identified by CycleBeads is 12 days long because it takes into account both the days around ovulation during which pregnancy is likely, and the variation in the timing of ovulation from one cycle to the next.

...because every woman should know.
Welcome!
In the U.S., there are more family planning options to choose from than ever. Most of us consider this to be a good thing. It means that people are more likely to find a method that works for them and keep using it.
However, elsewhere in the world, options are often more limited. Even in the U.S., many poor women and the health care programs that work with them have trouble affording the contraceptive option that they would most like to use. Experts believe that in the near future many people (especially those in developing countries) may not have access to family planning options at all. A key reason? Financial aid is not keeping pace with the growing demand.
In a recent article for the Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care, Dr. James Gribble of The Futures Group International addresses this issue and describes how low cost, effective family planning options like CycleBeads may help "bridge the gap" between funding and demand.
In this issue of the CycleBeads Newsletter, you'll find more information on this article, announcements about the latest stores and health care providers that offer CycleBeads, links to news stories about the expanding range of family planning options, and answers to Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any ideas on how we can improve the Newsletter or if you have a story that you would like to share with us, please email us at info@cyclebeads.com.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Leslie Heyer President Cycle Technologies

Latest Research: Will CycleBeads Help Solve a Worldwide Crisis?
According to an article written by Dr. James Gribble of The Futures Group International, and published in the Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care, CycleBeads may be a solution to a growing crisis. There is a widening gap between the cost of meeting family planning needs worldwide and the donor funding available to meet this need. In fact, experts report that the gap may be $210 million by the year 2015. Dr. Gribble reports that low cost, effective family planning methods like CycleBeads may be the solution to bridging this gap.

Personal Story: I Don't Want a Baby...Yet
Margaret S., Age 32 Business Development, Software Company Boston, MA
The following story was told to us via a phone conversation and paraphrased with Margaret's approval...
"I know my clock is ticking. I hear it from everyone - my friends, my mother, even my doctor! But, even though I'm 34 years old and have been happily married for almost six years, I'm just not quite there yet.
My husband and I have talked about it a lot. We're looking forward to having a family, but we still want to do a few things (like travel to Asia!) before we have kids.
CycleBeads have helped me feel a lot more comfortable that I know what's going on with my body. Even though I've been using them to avoid pregnancy, I know they'll be a big help when we do decide it's time (hopefully in the next year!).
Thank you for giving me something I can use for both. I'll let you know when we decide it's time!"
