How's everyone doing? I hope you had a great week! Mine was pretty good. It snowed a bit and that was exciting, for about 5 minutes. I was on Martha Stewart Radio on Thursday morning - big time fun. But yesterday was the best!!! I went to Madison Square Garden with the 'girls' to see cowboys ride bulls! Needless to say, one doesn't get to experience too much bull-riding in NYC ... not of that kind, anyway!
Last week, I asked, "If the Mousketeers had their ears, then the Tushkateers should have their trademark 'thing.' Any suggestions?"

Dear OLofWL ~ I signed up for The 21 Day Cure hoping that you/The Cure will help me with my problem. It's not because I need to lose weight. I have reached my goal. BUT I am having trouble eating "real food."
Breakfast and lunch are ok, and I do fine when I only have to fix food for myself , but I don't know how to eat when other people enter the picture. My son was home from college over Christmas break and whenever we ate together, I overdid it.
I feel like I'm on a roller coaster of eating lots one day then dieting it off the next two. Is that an okay way to do this??? My son will be home all summer, and I want to get a handle on this before then so I don't have to constantly struggle with food issues when he is here, or worse getting totally off track this summer.

Dear Sandy ~ There are a lot of 'clues' to your email that show where your fat cells are hanging out in your mind. Allow me to point them out and then blow them out - with some thought-provoking questions!
1. You said that you are having difficulty eating real food. What specifically is the difference between real food and the food that you eat?
2. How do you fix food for other people? Check out today's Righteous Recipe. It's a pasta dish made with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. A serving is about 250 calories. There's no reason that you can't cook healthy foods that support your healthy lifestyle for your son, as well.
3. When eating with others - whether it's at their house or at a restaurant - when you have no control, you can control portion size. Eat an appetizer for a main course or half an entre. Consider it an opportunity to practice mindful eating, because if you eat slowly and savor the flavor, put the fork down between bites, you will eat half the amount of food, and enjoy it twice as much.
4. Is it okay to eat a lot and then a little? Research has found that the vast majority of those who maintain their weight loss eat healthfully 7 days a week. That doesn't mean that they are perfect all the time, but they are not on a food roller coaster. The question you need to ask yourself: Is the Roller Coaster Diet sustainable? Is it really working for you?
5. Your assignment:Collect healthy recipes that both you and your son will enjoy. While your son may eat mammoth amounts of the healthy dishes that you are cooking, you may want to purchase a small plate or two, so that you can practice portion control. AND ... now the biggest and most important part of this. What in your thinking is keeping you fat?Are you a weight loss warrior or a victim to food? Write out three insights!!!
So - you see, there are 3 components to permanent fat removal. The first is the food (in this case healthy recipes), the strategies (small plates/portion control), your thinking! I am willing to bet my Tush that you Tushkateers can see where Sandy's fat cells are hiding in her mind.

Aromatic Penne (sounds better than Penne a la Garlic, no?)
Ingredients:
1/2 box (8 ozs.) of penne pasta (whole wheat if you've got it) * 1 head of broccoli - florets only * 3 tablespoons of virgin olive oil * 14 cloves of garlic (no, I'm not kidding!) * 1 green chile pepper (not a green pepper, a chile pepper) * 3 small fresh tomatoes, cut up however you like it, cubes, slices * 3/4 tablespoons of parmesan cheese * Salt n' pepper to taste
Instructions:
Cook the pasta as directed, in a large pot with boiling salted water. * Steam the broccoli florets for about a minute!! Just want them to soften a bit. * Then ... put the pasta in a bowl, with the broccoli florets. * Add the rest of the ingredients. * Mix well! * ENJOY!!!
