FAQ: Am I really able to get pregnant 12 days every cycle?
Q: "Am I really able to get pregnant for 12 days every cycle? I know that CycleBeads show the fertile window as 12 days long, but I always heard that there were only a couple of days each month when pregnancy is likely."

A: There are actually six days during each cycle when you can get pregnant, the five before ovulation and the 24 hours after ovulation. However, ovulation does not occur at exactly the same time each month. Therefore, your "fertile window", the days when pregnancy is likely, is longer than you might expect.

CycleBeads shows the fertile window as lasting for 12 days (Days 8 through 19) for women with cycles between 26 and 32 days long. This fertile window takes into account both the six days around ovulation and the variability of the timing of ovulation from one cycle to the next.

Plan or Prevent Pregnancy Naturally

Welcome!

Our mission is to provide women with family planning options that work for them. This is why we were extremely concerned to read a recently published study that showed that an increasing number of women in the U.S. are not using any form of birth control despite being sexually active and not wanting to get pregnant.

The study, which was conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, showed that the number of women in the U.S. not using any form of birth control rose from 3.1 million in 1995 to 4.7 million in 2002.   This means that a huge and growing number of women are at risk for an unplanned pregnancy.

Reproductive health experts have a range of theories about what is causing this spike in risky behavior. Factors include: fears about the side effects of contraceptives, gaps in sex education, the cost of birth control, declining insurance coverage, and personal attitudes about family planning and childbearing.

CycleBeads can help address many of these concerns. In this newsletter we'll look more closely at some of these issues and how CycleBeads, as a low cost, side effect free, family planning option, can fill this void.

As always, we welcome any feedback!

Sincerely,

Leslie Heyer

CycleBeads: The Most Affordable Choice

CycleBeads is the least expensive contraceptive device available to women in the U.S. The chart above shows the average costs that a woman pays in the U.S. for various birth control options.  Depending on her contraceptive choice, a woman can easily spend almost $500 per year to protect herself from pregnancy. Even if a woman has insurance, she is often spending $20-$35 per month for a co-pay. This burden is far too high for many women.

We think this is one of the many reasons that CycleBeads may help fill the void for women who need an inexpensive as well as effective family planning method. With a retail price of $12.95, CycleBeads is by far the cheapest family planning option available. It's 1/4th the price of the next least expensive option, the IUD, which if used for 10 years costs about $53 per year.

Personal Story: Life After the Pill

Leila J
Age 28, Fashion Designer
New York, NY

I was on the Pill for more than 10 years and while I liked the security it gave me, I hated the way I felt.

I often forgot to take the Pill which meant I'd have to double up and take two the next day. Those days when I took two pills, I'd usually find myself in the bathroom at work thinking I was going to get sick.

When I got married last year, I decided it was finally safe to go off the Pill. I just felt like I needed to give my body a break. But, I wasn't ready for kids just yet.

My husband and I used condoms most of the time for the first few months. During this time, we had quite a few close calls. I was constantly running to the drugstore to get a pregnancy test. I couldn't stand the stress and was less and less interested in being intimate.

That's when I started using CycleBeads. It's been amazing to see the change. Since going off of the Pill, I rarely get nauseous (a weekly event when I was on the Pill) and I feel like for the first time in my life, I actually know what's going on with my body. I've been much less stressed and much more interested in my husband again.
