Q: "I have just begun offering CycleBeads to patients, but I think I should ask them to come back in the next few months to ensure that they are using the method correctly and that their cycles are in the 26-32 days range. Do you agree? "
A: Research shows that follow-up visits are not necessary for women to use CycleBeads correctly and consistently. While there is a slight improvement in a woman's ability to explain how CycleBeads work if she has a follow up visit, most women are able to use CycleBeads correctly after one counseling session.

Welcome...Talk With Your Patients
Dear Healthcare Professional,
Many women, who use CycleBeads as a natural way to plan or prevent pregnancy, tell us that they don't talk to their healthcare providers about their family planning option. The reason...they don't think their healthcare providers will "understand". We want your patients to feel comfortable talking to you about their family planning choices and vice versa.
Women are most likely to feel comfortable talking to you about CycleBeads or other family planning options, if they see information on these options in your office. We have lots of educational materials available for this purpose. They are outlined in the "Free Educational Materials" section of this newsletter.
We also want to be sure that healthcare providers are able to answer their clients' questions. While most providers find that they can teach a client to use CycleBeads correctly within a few minutes, it is helpful to have firsthand experience answering potential questions. Would you know how to counsel a woman who wants to use CycleBeads and has just stopped taking the Pill? How would you help a woman determine if her cycles are between 26 and 32 days long?
If you haven't already been trained on how to counsel patients on these types of questions, you may find the section on "Training Opportunities" of interest. Best of all...most of the trainings are free and CEU's or CME's are available.
If you have any questions about the resources available or need any further information to help you better meet the needs of your patients, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Leslie Heyer President Cycle Technologies

Training Opportunities
There are both online and live training opportunities to help healthcare providers learn about the research and methodology behind CycleBeads, and learn how to counsel patients that want to use this family planning option.
Online Training for MD's - The July issue of Contemporary OB/GYN features an article on fertility awareness based methods of family planning. The paper provides detailed information on CycleBeads and has been selected as the Continuing
Medical Education accredited paper of the month. Physicians may elect to complete an on-line test
on the contents of the paper and earn continuing medical education credit. To learn more about the Contemporary OB/GYN training and CME's, click here.
Online Training for Nurse Professionals & Other Healthcare Providers - The Institute for Reproductive Health at Georgetown University offers a comprehensive training focused on CycleBeads and the Standard Days Method. This training is free of charge. CEU's are available for nurse professionals. To learn more about the Institute for Reproductive Health training, click here. Live Trainings - Live trainings are available for all healthcare providers at many conferences. The next live training is scheduled for: The Women's Health Update Conference Los Angeles, CA October 19-21, 2006. Continuing education units are available to nurse practitioners at this training. Free Educational Materials
We have numerous communication materials to help you raise awareness among your patients and talk to them about CycleBeads. All of these materials are free with purchase:
Counseling Guide - We now provide a free comprehensive Counseling Guide for all orders of CycleBeads. If you offer CycleBeads, but do not have a Counseling Guide in your office, please contact us and we will send a Counseling Guide to you free of charge.
The Counseling Guide provides information on counseling patients to use CycleBeads correctly, how to identify patients who should NOT be using CycleBeads, and how to address 'special' situations such as when a woman has recently been pregnant or is transitioning from using a family planning method that may have disrupted her cycle. Client Brochures - Client brochures are a great way for women to learn about CycleBeads and how they work.
Posters - Attractive 11 x 17 and 8 x 11 posters are available. The smaller version also includes useful information on the back such as effectiveness comparisons, information on the research on which CycleBeads is based, etc.
Introductory Video or CD-ROM- A short, but informative video is available for providers to share with patients either in your waiting room or during a counseling session. A VHS tape or CD-ROM is available free of charge with purchase.
