Just as Labor Day celebrates American workers, on September 7th, from 9:00-11:00 a.m., we will honor workers in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties by helping 20 people remain employed. Staggering unemployment statistics make losing work a potentially long-term threat to maintaining stability. Because the need to remain employed has never been greater, on this Labor Day Wheels of Success will celebrate not only area workers but also Tampa Bay’s ongoing spirit of generosity!
Paying it Forward
Despite the decline in vehicle donations and disappearance of grants previously responsible for funding Labor Day Give-Aways, Wheels is committed to celebrating workers through our upcoming annual 20-car give-away. The $20,000 needed to make donated vehicles road-worthy will be raised through the Power of Giving / $55 Saves Lives campaign. Click for Details.

Waiting for Wheels
The serious effects of our economy are reflected in not only the number of desperate WOS applicants, but also their socio-economic situations. Some individuals who formerly donated cars to us are returning as applicants after taking lesser-paying jobs following lay offs and subsequently having had their vehicles repossessed.
Karin C is one of 50+ applicants referred to WOS in May. She came highly recommended by her employer who wrote, “Karin is recognized as a lead teacher in the field of Positive Behavior Skills; her implementation techniques have been included in a worldwide training video.” Although she knows she'll appreciate the practical aspects of reliable, personal transportation, what this hard-working employee, student, wife, mother and grandparent dreams about is picking up her grandchildren and taking them to the park. We are extremely grateful for all contributions, small to large, as well as for the graphic abilities and volunteer time of our webmaster Cory Seymour, South Island Design. Although we are thankful for so many new supporters whom we need to meet the growing transportation needs of Tampa Bay workers, we have a special kind of gratitude for those like Cory and AAA Auto Club South -- true friends of Wheels since our early days.
