1st Wheels to the Future Recipient Drives into Future

On May 28, 2008, Wheel of Success was pleased to give Deron Roberson, a local teen aging out of the foster care system, a beautiful (donated) WOS Volvo to drive into his future! Deron admitted being weary at the event because he had been too excited to sleep the previous night. In his formal remarks to an enthusiastic Connected by 25 gathering to recognize graduates and award scholarships, Deron was inspiringly grateful to everyone.

Founder and CEO, Susan Jacobs happily handed the keys to Deron after thanking Joe Clark from the Eckerd Family Foundation and the Rotary Club of Tampa who made the Wheels to the Future program possible through generous grants. Part of Wheels’ mission commits to partnering with other community efforts, as we often offer the last link in the chain to an individual's independence. In keeping with that goal, Wheels began this pilot program in partnership with Connected by 25 and Hillsborough Kids, Inc. Our hope is to provide one car each month to help area youths aging out of foster care to become productive adults by affording them reliable transportation to school, work and community events and to offer them the life experience that accompanies the responsibility of personal car ownership.

Deron’s enthusiasm reminded us all why Wheels to the Future was created as an extension of the WOS mission. If you would like to donate a vehicle specifically for this critical community program or make a monetary donation (as we also provide repairs in this program), please call today: Wheels to the Future: 813/490-9443.

 Make a Difference

Wheels of Success does more than give out cars. We help with car repairs, tag/title/insurance, car payments and down payments. Any donation, no matter how small, can make a huge difference. $35 transfers a title; $50 buys two tires or batteries. Please consider making an online donation or donating your vehicle to help another family stay on the road.
