Shabbat Shira - The Shabbat of Song

Our newly revitalized Adult Choir will enhance our Shabbat evening service on Friday, February 6, in honor of Shabbat Shira, the Shabbat of Song. The Shabbat when we read Miriam's Song of the Sea from the Torah is called "The Shabbat of Song" and our choir, under the leadership of Cantorial Soloist Bon Singer, will add beauty and spirituality to our service.

Faith & Human Rights
with Rabbi Brian Walt, Rabbis for Human Rights-North America

Thursday, February 12 • 7:30 pm at Beth El
The Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, in collaboration with Congregation Beth El, other universities, centers, faith communities, and social organizations will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with a program entitled Faith in Human Rights: Promoting Human Dignity, working for Justice, Building Peace.

Rabbi Brian Walt, the founding executive director of Rabbis for Human Rights-North America and Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation Mishkan Shalom, a synagogue in Philadelphia PA is dedicated to the integration of spiritual life and social justice. For many years Rabbi Walt has promoted open discussion in the Jewish community of human rights issues faced by Palestinians living under Israeli control. He is a member of the board of the National Religious Campaign against Torture. He speaks nationally on issues of human rights and Judaism.

Israel trip Aliyah

The congregation will honor and bless the departure of our group with a special aliyah at Shabbat morning services on Saturday, February 21. Shabbat morning services are at 10:15 am (but the Torah service begins at approximately 11:00!) We realize that some of you may have already left as part of your own pre-trip travel but hope that many of you will attend.
